Experienced Lawyer for Lemon Law and Estate Planning

How We Can Help You

We focus on the areas where individuals and families need a knowledgeable advocate in their corner.

Your car should work. When it doesn’t — and the dealership can’t fix it — California law may entitle you to a full refund or replacement. We handle lemon law claims on contingency. You pay nothing unless we win.

Protect your family and your assets with a clear, legally sound plan. We draft wills, trusts, and powers of attorney tailored to your situation.

Immigration Law

Whether you’re pursuing a family visa, green card, or naturalization — the process is complex. We guide you through every step with clarity and care.

Special Education

Every child deserves the education they’re entitled to. We help families navigate IEPs, school disputes, and disability rights under federal and California law.

If something happens to you, could your child's inheritance cost them the benefits they rely on?Leaving money or property directly to a child with a disability can put SSI, Medi-Cal, and other need-based benefits at risk once those funds are in their name. A special needs trust holds the inheritance separately. When it's set up and managed correctly, it can pay for things government programs and insurance don't cover, while protecting your child's eligibility for the benefits they depend on.It's one of the pieces families miss most often when they plan on their own, because the problem doesn't show up until it's too late to fix easily. At Gatus Law Group, we walk through it with you directly, so you understand how your child will be provided for.Call our Northridge office at 818-457-6415 or visit gatuslaw.com to schedule a consultation.Gatus Law Group | 19835 Nordhoff St., Suite 204, Northridge, CA 91324This post is for informational purposes only and #SpecialNeedsTruste#SpecialNeedsPlanningi#EstatePlanningp#specialeducationg#northridgen#sanfernandovalleytion #Northridge #SanFernandoValleygatuslaw.com/my-trust-planner/ ...

Registered domestic partners: your estate rights aren't automatic in California.California gives registered domestic partners many of the same protections as married couples, but that doesn't mean your estate is automatically set up to reflect it. Without a will or trust that names your partner directly, state default rules can send assets to parents or siblings instead of the person you actually want to inherit them. It's an easy gap to miss, especially when you assume partner status alone covers it. A short conversation with an attorney can tell you exactly what's already protected and what still needs to #domesticpartnership#DomesticPartnershipgatuslaw.com/my-trust-planner/ ...

Part 4 of 5: Separated isn't the same as divorcedSeparated doesn't mean divorced. In California, you're still legally married until the court enters a final judgment, and that distinction can matter more than people realize. While you're separated, your spouse may still have rights to community property. That includes property acquired during the marriage before you separated, even if it's only in your name. What you earn and acquire after the date of separation is often treated differently. But here's what catches people off guard: the date of separation isn't automatic. It depends on what both spouses said and did, not just who moved out, and it can be disputed. If a divorce has already been filed, automatic court orders limit what either spouse can do with property, including moving assets into a trust. Doing that without checking first can violate those orders, even when the goal was simply to protect what you've built. We know this is a hard, uncertain time for many families. Before you move, sell, or retitle anything while separated, talk with an attorney who can help you understand where you stand.Questions about your situation? What Our Clients Say

Review from Google
Atty. Brian at Gatus Law Group made updating our family's estate plan simple. After the birth of our second son, we needed to update our trust and wills. Atty. Brian reviewed our existing documents, explained exactly what needed to change and what didn't, and kept the updates focused instead of making us redo everything. He was clear, responsive, and professional throughout, and he had the paperwork ready quickly. I'd recommend Gatus Law Group to any family looking for straightforward, trustworthy estate planning help.

For the last 14 years, my parents have been ‘on me’ to get my Trust done, since I was ‘on them’ for about 3 years. Payback is a b#$%^ … 😊😊😊. Having said that …

Brian took care of EVERYTHING! His ‘Intake Questionnaire’ was extremely detailed and thorough. I didn’t realize there was SO MUCH that needed to be addressed in a Trust, Pour Over Will, beneficiaries, retirement accounts, pensions, medical proxy, Grant Deed(s), etc. Prepare yourself to spend a significant amount of time pondering these questions. Although intimidating, these are questions that we all need to address for the betterment of our loved ones. We DO NOT want there to be ‘family infighting’ once we have passed on. We want ‘family unity’ and respect paid to our final wishes.

Brian and I had several conversations, both in – person and via ZOOM / phone and / or text, discussing the specifics, legal necessities, but most importantly, MY WISHES! Needless to say, everything discussed was, and remains, confidential, due to Attorney Client confidentiality. Once I had completed the ‘Intake Questionnaire’, Brian reviewed it. On a side note, below is my favorite question …

Do you want to include a no-contest (in terrorem) clause?
A no-contest clause discourages beneficiaries from legally challenging the trust by forfeiting their share if they do.

I can’t tell you how quickly I checked the ‘YES’ box on this one … 😊

We then had an additional meeting discussing those specifics, wherein Brian asked for clarification / confirmation of intentions. Following that meeting, Brian wrote up a preliminary version of the Trust, every section was sent to me for careful final review, prior to him preparing a ‘final written version’ of the Trust.

When all was ‘said and done’, Brian arranged for a Signing Meeting, wherein a Notary was present to observe and notarize all required documents. All documents were given a final ‘quick look over’ to confirm my wishes, each page was initialed by me, and all required pages were notarized, right then and there. My Trust was presented to me in a high-quality leather-bound folder, each page printed on high-quality bound paper (see pictures). Brian scanned my entire Trust to keep it on file in his office. Included was the original copy of my Grant Deed, as well as a copy.

Perhaps as a ‘1st Client Benefit’ … 😊 … Brian (personally) filed the Grant Deed with the County, transferring my home to my Trust. I didn’t know that only the homeowner (me), my Attorney, or a Title company representative, can actually file the Grant Deed; the things you learn. My Grant Deed was recorded immediately, not several days / weeks later. This was especially professional and appreciated, and I thank Brian for that.

We’ve all heard / experienced stories of Attorneys, for better or worse. I can say with 100% certainty that Brian is professional, supportive, inquisitive, honest, and committed to providing you with what you need and / or want in your Trust. At no point during this process did I feel pressured, hurried, rushed, forced, ridiculed (one of wishes is a little wacky … 😊), or otherwise intimidated to change my mind. All I ever got was professional and legal inquisitiveness.

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Brian Gatus as your Estate Attorney.

My experience was excellent from start to finish. He was incredibly accommodating, always willing to make time for my questions and walk me through the process step by step. What really stood out was how respectfully I was treated throughout, I never felt like just another file on the desk. He listened carefully to my concerns and made sure I understood my options before moving forward. I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for an attorney who is professional, attentive, and genuinely respectful of their clients.

I preferred an in person meeting rather than video . When I discussed matters on my case, I found Atty. Gatus to be knowledgeable, professional and easy to talk to.
